Class Format

This is an online, self-paced class.  You will have six (6) months from the time of purchase to complete the course. 

Course Description

The Patient Access Specialist course introduces you to the roles and responsibilities of the Patient Access Services department in a hospital setting. You will learn the role of correct patient identification practices in maintaining patient safety and the need for extraordinary customer service skills in difficult situations. During the course, you will gain the skills and knowledge required to sit for the Certified Healthcare Access Associate certification exam. The self-paced online course is one of the five courses comprising the Certified Healthcare Access Associate program from the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM).

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the revenue cycle and the functions of a Patient Access Specialist
  2. Identify government and regulatory agency requirements applicable to the Patient Access Specialist position
  3. Describe how the measurement of performance, safety, and accuracy relates to the future development of an organization
  4. Explain the NAHAM (National Association of Healthcare Access Management) model and how it applies to the CHAA exam

This 41 hour time-on-task non-credit course is most appropriate if you are new to health care and wish to work in a front-line registration position in a hospital setting.
